About Us

Born from Community. Built on Love.

The King and I Embassy was founded by Black women who refused to look away from the needs of their neighbors. What started as a calling became a movement.

Our Story

We Started With a Kitchen Table

The King and I Embassy began the way most great things do — with a group of Black women who saw a need and decided to meet it. Families in Oak Forest were struggling with food insecurity, isolation, and a lack of compassionate support. We knew we couldn't wait for someone else to step in.

What started as informal social group changed into a full nonprofit organization rooted in dignity, care, and community power. Today, we serve hundreds of families each year — and we are just getting started.

"We didn't start this because it was easy. We started it because it was necessary."

Meet the Founder

A Vision Rooted in Love

The King and I Embassy was founded by a woman whose heart for her community could not be contained. Driven by faith, compassion, and an unshakeable belief that every person deserves dignity, she turned a personal calling into a movement that has touched hundreds of lives across Oak Forest and beyond.

Her leadership is defined not by titles, but by presence — showing up, rolling up her sleeves, and reminding every volunteer and family member that they are seen, valued, and never alone. She built this organization on the same principles she lives by every day: love your neighbor, serve without judgment, and never stop believing in the power of community.

"This work is not a program. It is a promise — to every family who walks through our doors."

Our Core Values

Dignity

Every family we serve is treated with the full respect and honor they deserve — no shame, no judgment, no barriers.

Compassion

We lead with our hearts. Every interaction is an opportunity to show someone they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Community

We believe in the power of neighbors helping neighbors. Our strength comes from the bonds we build together.

Empowerment

We don't just provide resources — we build capacity, confidence, and pathways for families to thrive long-term.
